Shakin’ that @$$!

by Jennifer on June 5, 2010

I can honestly say I have never stared at someone’s ass in amazement for as long as I did in my first Zumba class this morning. It was like her butt was on strings; like it was a puppet. Crazy. My new fitness goal is to be able to do that LOL. So here are my thoughts on it.

Is it worth the hype? YES! It was one of the best workouts I have had in a long time, I sweat my butt off but had a blast doing it. While I didn’t think the time “flew by” like people said, I had an awesome time. My biggest fear going in to it was that I wasn’t going to know what to do or that I was going to look silly. What I learned is that you really don’t need to worry about doing it perfect or not knowing what you are doing because a lot of people don’t. Looking around the room, if someone was having a hard time with a move they were just doing their own thing, which is totally ok.

Was it hard? Yes. But I think anyone of any fitness level could do it, and enjoy it. As soon as I got home I ordered the Zumba Fitness Total Body Transformation System DVD Set. which was a little pricey, but I can’t always find a class that works with my schedule and I really enjoyed doing it so this was the next best thing.

Have you tried Zumba? What do you think? I am completely obsessed now! Happy Saturday! :)

hahah you’re a riot :) sounds fun though! I just don’t have money to take classes or go to a gym, so I run and do Yoga on demand. :-\

I love love love Zumba!! I really think it depends on the instructor-we have three at my gym and one is very traditional latin/salsa, one is very belly dancing/indian type and one is hiphop oriented. They all follow the Zumba principles, just with their own spin. Even though I look so ridiculous, I have so much fun! I’m glad you’ve discovered it!

I’ve never tried Zumba, but I’ve wanted to. I have a good friend who swears by it and does it a few times a week. I also have another friend who teaches it. Maybe I’ll look into the DVDs, because I’m not much for doing classes; my anxiety always takes over me and I think I’ll look ridiculous!

I’ve done it before and had a blast as well. My instructor was nuts! It took me awhile to get some of the steps down, but no one really seemed to care. It was all about just having fun!

I’ve been so so curious about Zumba ever since joining a gym about 3 months ago or so. I definitely want to try it after you said that not everyone knows what they’re doing.. that was a concern of mine!

I love your blog! Such a cute header :)

Glad you had fun with Zumba. I haven’t done it in awhile since it is at pretty odd times at my gym, but I loved it when I did do it more. Very fun!

Hahaha…LOVE Zumba! That was my experience too (but it was a very effeminate guy that taught it, ha)…I really want to learn how to do that, and teach it eventually, but they NEVER have classes when I am available :( the times I got to go when were clients were away. Glad you had fun!

I love Zumba! I agree that most people I talk to are scared to try because they think they will look stupid. You don’t need to have the moves down pat – you just need to move your butt and work up a sweat. I do think the right teacher makes a huge difference. My first time I took a class didn’t even come close to comparing to the teacher I had once I became a Zumba regular. She had so much enthusiasm it was contagious. Now I don’t belong to a gym and I definitely miss it!

I really, really want to try this but my gym doesn’t offer it (yet). I’ve heard great things and can’t wait to try it!

I have never done Zumba before. But the classes that they offer at my gym are packed out! In fact, they have the biggest Zumba class in the state. I’ve never tried it before because I was a dancer since I was 7 and then taught 10 classes a week up until 2 years ago. Since my body is conditioned to dance, I find that classes like Zumba or dance aerobics don’t get my heart rate up high enough for a good workout. But that is just because I have danced for so long. However, I still think it would be fun to do!
