A question I get a lot is whether or not it is really possible to lose weight by walking? Good news my friends: it sure is! There are two things that are key though: intervals and incline.

Try diving into the great outdoors by planning a 1.5 to 2 mile route using mapmywalk.com to help find a local path near you. Hills are crucial, so make sure your path has you on an incline at least once ever 5 minutes. Alternate 5 minutes of walking at the fastest pace you can, with 5 minutes of walking at a brisk pace.

Want to get more from the workout? In between the fast pace and the brisk pace, stop to do some squats or lunges!

I can vouch for the fact that you absolutely can lose weight with walking. In fact, when I started my weightloss journey, this was my only source of exercise for a couple of months. But, I did it 4-5 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes and varied the intensity / incline like you said.

I also used every opportunity to be in motion. Parked a mile away from work, took 5 flights of stairs up every day instead of the elevator, used the restroom on the 3 or 4th floor when I sit on the 5th floor. And, what kept me going was watching the steps add up on my bodybugg pedometer. I competed with myself by increasing my total daily steps.

I recommend walking to all..it’s easy, effective and fun.

I love long walks. There’s a gorgeous–and VERY hilly–2.8 mile trail I walk with my puppy. It’s a great workout for both of us!

YAY, I love walking! I walk to my classes twice a day. Sadly, there are no hills or anything. But it is much better than taking the bus and I like to think that combined with the 30 day shred + walking is good. I should probably be doing more though..

I have dropped 43 pounds and counting walking 5-7 times a week for about 30-60 minutes, changing my eating habits, and keeping a positive mind set.
