“The More You Know” Thursday: Remove SHOULD from your vocabulary!

by Janine@ThePurpleGiraffe on April 12, 2012

Good morning lovelies!

How are you doing today?

It’s a lovely day here in NH and I know that I should work out… but I don’t really have much motivation. Ever felt that way?

Yes, that’s a question I already knew the answer to. We’ve all felt that way.

We know that to get fit and healthy we SHOULD workout. We SHOULD eat foods that will support our goals. We SHOULD find time for fitness. The list goes on…

SHOULD is a word that needs to be stricken from your vocab – STAT. It’s pretty useless when you think about it. SHOULD doesn’t inspire change. DOING something inspires change.

If you DO workout and you DO eat healthy foods that support your goals, you WILL get fit and healthy. Looks like Yoda was on to something.

So how do we make the transition from SHOULD to DO?

  • Make your goals SMART – it’ll be easier to DO when you aren’t vague about your goals, when they’re measurable, attainable/realistic given your schedule and tied to a time period.
  • Have a PLAN – preparation is key. It’s easy to eat a crappy meal at a drive thru when you have no food in the house. It’s easy to skip the gym if you don’t pack a bag. PLAN for your success and you’re more likely to be successful.
  • TALK about it – tell everyone you know what your plan is. Be accountable. Have your friends hassle you when you mess up. It’s all in good fun, except when it isn’t ;-)

Enough talk. It’s time for action! Get out there and DO!
