Charcuterie boards don't require cooking and are simple appetizers to make for holiday parties or dinner parties. A Charcuterie board is an appetizer plate comprised of cheeses, cured meats fruit, nuts, vegetables spreads, dips and crackers. Food items on the charcuterie platter are usually set out on a wooden board.

It is believed that the French word "charcuterie" refers to "pork butcher shop" and was initially used to describe shops in France that offered cured pork products similar to today's delicatessen. Nowadays, the pates board could be used to refer to a variety of cured meats, including Italian preserved meats such as prosciutto and soppressata.

There are no strict and fast guidelines for the charcuterie board. However, the top charcuterie boards come with diverse flavors and textures, including salty-sweet, sour, soft and crispy. There are some grocery store items that you can use on your charcuterie boards. Like, easy-to-cut meats, like prosciutto, salami, pepperoni, soppressata, chorizo and pate, are great for charcuterie boards.

Choose the cheeses with a spreadable or hard texture that can be easy for each guest to slice and spread. Cheddar, parmesan, gruyere, fresh mozzarella, gouda, manchego, brie, cream cheese, goat cheese, or blue cheese. Serve fresh fruit and vegetables that are easy to find like grapes, blueberries, strawberries carrot sticks, artichokes, carrot sticks cherries, artichokes, or olives. 

Also, you can serve cornichons or dried fruit, like apricots or cranberries. Make sure you include cut-up fruits and vegetables that won't change color when exposed to the air. Select crackers that have adequate space for meats and cheeses however not so large that guests will need to break them into pieces.
